Everglades University Public Health Degrees

Everglades University appears in our ranking of the 10 Best MPH Degrees in the Northeast.

Everglades University offers a Master’s Degree in Public Health Administration that can be earned on-campus or online. The goal of the program is to prepare students to take on roles within public health administration organizations that are well-beyond entry-level. Many graduates go on to assume supervisory and other leadership roles in the field. Through the coursework, students are introduced to advanced theoretical concepts and learning from all functional areas of the field. They are encouraged to undertake analytical decision-making strategies that solve practical, real-world problems.

Instructors recognize that students come from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds and have diverse professional goals. Accordingly, the courses are broad and intensive, presenting new theories and skills before diving into the specific subject matter with greater depth. Graduates are equipped to confront the complex health issues that impact individuals and communities across the country. Through their efforts, they may be able to improve access to health care in underserved communities, help to control the spread of infectious diseases, have a positive impact on health care policy, accurately perform community health assessments and improve the health and well-being of the public.

A total of 36-credit hours are required to complete the program. Most people are able to complete the program within about 48 to 52 weeks, depending upon how many transfer credits they have. Students in the program complete seven required courses that include Introduction to U.S. Healthcare Systems, Principles of Epidemiology, Influencing Healthcare Policy, Research Methods in Public Health and Biostatistics. Students also take elective courses such as Advanced Organizational Behavior, Leadership Skills for Managers and Business Policy and Decision Making. A three-credit capstone course rounds out the curriculum.

About Everglades University

Once known as American Flyers College, Everglades University is a private, non-profit university. Its central campus is located in Boca Raton, Florida, though satellite locations are found throughout the state. All of the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs offered by Everglades University are available both on-campus and online.

Founded in 1990 in Fort Lauderdale, American Flyers College was purchased eight years later by Arthur and Belinda Keiser. They renamed the institution Everglades College and reorganized as a non-profit corporation. Eventually, the administration was turned over to a board of trustees.

Through the early 2000s, the institution opened branches in Sarasota, Boca Raton, and Orlando. The school also changed its name to Everglades University and achieved regional accreditation. Everglades University distinguishes itself by being exceptionally student-focused and environmentally conscious. Geared toward furthering the education of working adults, each of the undergraduate and graduate programs that are offered is designed to help students build their careers or enter a new field.

All programs feature aspects that are environmentally conscious with an emphasis on sustainability. Thanks to a variety of electives and concentrations, students are able to tailor coursework to suit their professional goals.

Because Everglades University is focused on serving non-traditional learners, it does not follow a typical academic calendar. Each course is presented in a four-week format, and students take classes one at a time. This makes it possible to completely focus on the subject matter without being distracted by completing coursework.

Undergraduate degrees are available in diverse disciplines such as alternative medicine, alternative and renewable energy management, aviation and aerospace, crisis and disaster management, business administration and marine resources management.

Graduate degrees are similarly diverse. In addition to public health administration, students may select from business administration, aviation science, and entrepreneurship. Some of these programs offer more than one concentration area to allow students to customize their learning experience.
